Points for Seesmic Desktop

Last week I posted a video when the new Seesmic Desktop for Twitter was released.  From the start there were things about this new app I liked, and things I didn’t.  As with any new software, there will be bugs – and there were. The biggest that I noticed was that when you set up a Userlist or Search when you closed the program, it did not save the Userlist or Searches you setup. Not good!

However, today a new update was released that fixed this pesky problem, so points for Seesmic Desktop! I’ve highlighted that fix, and a couple other features I like and compared it a bit to TweetDeck.

Let me know if you’ve tried Seesmic Desktop yet and what you think.

Seesmic Desktop for Twitter

Tonight Seesmic unveiled their new Desktop client for Twitter.  For those who have used TweetDeck, this new Adobe Air app from Seesmic will have a few familiar features; such as columns, the ability to group selected followers into ‘Userlists’ and also have columns for specific search phrases too. The user tools such as reply, DM, RT & Other Tools  – Favorite, Add to Userlist (Group in TweetDeck) are still found by mousing over the avatar.

But the best feature is the ability to use multiple Twitter accounts. I hear all the time that this was one major drawback with TweetDeck. TwitPic is supported, as well as ability to capture a live web cam image and upload that from within the app too.

Watch this short video for a quick walk through this cool new Twitter app. Then go download it for yourself and give it a try. Let me know how you like it.  http://desktop.seesmic.com/

TweetDeck: Search Feature

TweetDeck has a very useful search feature where you can create a new column using search parameters of your choosing to filter tweets in Twitter. These tweets are from all of Twitter, not just from those you follow; so it’s a good way to find new people to follow (if you choose) or to keep aprised on the latest happenings in your particular business niche, hobby, area of interest or even to monitor mentions of your name, brand or company to provide better customer service.

This brief video shows you how to setup a Search column in TweetDeck.
