The best blogs usually have a theme, this is called a niche. It’s a specific area of interest that the blogger writes about. The niche here at Genesis Blogging is well… blogging and social media – specifically I write for beginner bloggers and beginners to social media.
There are blogs for just about any niche you can think of – truly, there are some really bizarre things people blog about; their hobbies, family, sports, business and of course, there’s the food blogs. In addition to the myriad of food blogs of every type you can imagine, there are, of course, the multiple cooking shows on TV – and now, coming out this Friday (August 7, 2009) is the movie Julie and Julia about what else: cooking and blogging! To say that cooking and blogging are both hot right now is an understatement!
So what’s my point? My point is that if you love to cook, or eat (I would fall into the latter category)… well, basically if you’re breathing – you need food. But if you’re one of those ‘foodies’, you know who you are: those special folks who truly enjoy food, who enjoy being in the kitchen cooking, you’re one of the ones who will be standing in line waiting for Julie and Julia to open on Friday because well… it’s about Julia Child for goodness sakes! Then perhaps you should take your love of food to the world wide web and share your food experiences with the world too, just as Julie did in the movie.
Okay, so you don’t have to cook your way through a cookbook if you don’t want to; or at least you don’t have to all by yourself, there are actually groups of others who do this online, together. Did you know that?! Yep, Tuesdays With Dorie is a lovely group who do this; but you need a blog to join.
Don’t have a blog?
I can help with that. If you do not have a blog, and need help on how to start a blog, try my Beginner to Blogger in 4 Weeks eCourse. I can help you get your blog up and running so you can get started blogging too.
Once you have a blog online, blog about your love of food. Blog about what you’re cooking that day, or what restaurant you went to and review their food. You could become an affiliate for cookware, cookbooks or write your own cookbook and sell it from your blog.
The possibilities are endless whether you want to blog just for the enjoyment of sharing your love and experience of food and/or to also earn some money via your blog as well. You just need to get a blog online and start blogging!
My Favorite Food Blogs
Even though I enjoy eating more than I love cooking, I do of course, cook. I’ve not yet sent anyone to the hospital with my cooking, so hey – that’s something, right?! But like most people, I do enjoy finding good recipes and what better way to find good recipes than from good food blogs.
So here are a few of my favorite food blogs. Visit these blogs, click to subscribe to their RSS and I know soon you’ll enjoy them too.
Your turn….
Share with me links to your favorite food blogs.
To YOUR success,
Traci Knoppe

I must add Smitten Kitchen to your list (smittenkitchen.com). Another good one is Joy the Baker (joythebaker.com).
My daughter thinks I’m insane but I will be one of those “waiting in line” for tickets for the movie!

Hi Bridgett – I’m so excited about this movie, I’ve turned it into a date with my hubby! LOL I’ve got a sitter for my 3 youngest children and we’re going out to lunch and to see the matinee showing tomorrow. I can’t wait!
I should have my review of the movie up here on my blog by Saturday.

I have a lot of favorite foodie blogs but the two that top my list would be Jenna at eatliverun.com and Kath of Katheats.com
I have met both of these gals and they are wonderful. It’s important for me to read healthy eating food blogs so that’s what interests me.
As for the movie, I’ll probably just watch it when it comes out on dvd. We don’t ever go to the theater.

I love to experiment in the kitchen and I am addicted to food blogs to get new ideas. (I can’t wait to see Julie and Julia). Two foodie websites I visit every day are http://www.foodblogs.com and http://www.foodgawker.com. They always have new content and they link to other food blogs.
Thanks so much for the shout out, Traci! I’m flattered that you enjoy my little blog. You’re welcome there anytime.
BTW, I’m going to see Julie and Julia tomorrow. Can’t wait!

We hadn’t driven unfamiliar routes enough times for me to find out whether he was one of those guys.
You know, one of those guys who have too much testosterone to unfold a map. Turn on the GPS. Ask for directions. Because you know, having an internal compass is a requisite characteristic of a real man.

Hi! Thanks for all the great tips. I have a question. What is the policy on putting links of other websites on a person’s blog? I read several blog entries that were justifying their act of putting links in their post, because the readers accused them of selling out to advertising. Me, for example would like to have a blog where I can say: I lived the beluga caviar I bought on http://www.1caviar.com . I mean, it is personal information I have the right to share with potential readers, don’t I? Do you possible have some tips on this?
Flora – if you want to share links with readers on your own blog – then do so. The internet, including blogs, are for sharing. It’s often how you present the information to your readers that makes a difference. If your post is written more like an advertisement, than a personal conversation where you are recommending something to a friend, folks might get upset – or at least won’t respond by clicking the link. Also, offer/recommend only products/services that would be of interest to your readers. If your blog is on crochet – don’t offer them a special deal on golf.
Keep it reader relevant.
Great blog! Your list of is a good one.
I love food blogs because it lets like minded people come together to talk about the niche they love!
Thanks for sharing.
