This video demonstrates how easy it is to automatically upgrade WordPress from within the WP admin dashboard using the wp-automatic upgrade plugin. In this particular video, I upgrade from version 2.6.5 to version 2.7 using this plugin in under 10 minutes.

Aargh!! The reason I’ve avoided upgrading… I got errors and now stuck in maintenance mode!! What should I do now?

I got your DM on Twitter Gina & will help you through there. But for anyone encountering this problem – make sure if you opened that second window to check if it was in maintenance mode, as it shows you in the video, that you go back to the first window and continue through the upgrade process by click the next step link.
Hey Traci… I really think my theme was not compatible! It never took me all the way through the upgrade, I instantly started getting warnings in my admin… I ended up doing a manual upgrade but will try the WPAU on another site to see how that goes… I’m definitely not afraid of giving it another try… and have to say I’m loving WP2.7!

You are most welcome Gina. Definitely give WPAU another try. I truly do love it and have used it for at least 1.5 – 2 years now without any major issues and they keep improving it each update of the plugin.
Unfortunately as with all things on the web, whenever there are updates and upgrades, not everything else updates at the same time and there can be incompatibility issues. So we have to adjust until those things are updated.
Let me know how it goes when you try WPAU on another site.
