Hello HootSuite – Goodbye TweetDeck

HootSuite Twitter applicationIf you read this blog or follow me on Twitter, you know I've been a huge fan of TweetDeck. I've tried many other Twitter tools and software, and while some are also pretty nice. I always went back to TweetDeck.

Then my social networking life got crazy busy. Not only was I managing several of my own personal social media accounts, I was also managing social media marketing for clients.

Something had to change.

Tweetdeck vs. HootSuite

The biggest difference between TweetDeck and HootSuite is access points. TweetDeck is a desktop application. While it will sync new columns to my laptop that I created on my desktop – those columns are things like search columns. It doesn't automatically add new account columns.

HootSuite is a web based application. I just log into their web site, and all my info is there. I can access it anywhere I have an internet connection.

This is huge for me. I don't want to have to go around editing both my desktop application and my laptop (not to mention my iPhone!) to display all the accounts I need it to.

Most social media apps aren't just for Twitter, or one social networking platform – they integrate all into one. HootSuite is no different, allowing me to access all of my  social media accounts:

  • Twitter
  • Facebook: personal profile and all of my pages
  • LinkedIn
  • MySpace
  • Foursquare
  • Ping.fm
  • WordPress.COM

This is a huge time-saver for me, as I can log into one place and be social everywhere, and from anywhere. Just wish it would somehow connect with YouTube – and I'd be all set. ;)

(Oh, and they have an iPhone app too. Sweet!)

So there ya have it. I've moved over to HootSuite. I'll be doing a training video on HootSuite very soon.

What social media app or tool is your favorite?

Thanks for the warm welcome to the HootSuite community Dave! I’ll be sure to be on the lookout for news from the HootSuite camp. :)

  2. Thank you for the information about HootSuite Traci, I’ll take a look at it.

I’m a Seesmic desktop user myself. I appreciate the convenience of being able to minimize the app and pull it up every 10 minutes or so to see what my Twitter friends are talking about.

Of course, unlike you, I’ve only got 2 Twitter accounts to tend to.
